With its distinctive antique bottle and gold etched label dominated by a sheep, this is definitely a move away from classic Bordeaux bottling. It is good that the wine can support the presentation. The fruit is so ripe, it almost tastes of raisins, but that sweetness is finely balanced by the dry tannins and concentrated texture. To finish, there are exotic spices, giving an almost oriental character to the long aftertaste.
Domaine Huet is an iconic Vouvray producer and lauded for making some of the world's most compelling white wines, including some of the longest-lived sweet wines.
Founded in 1928 by Gaston Huet with the purchase of the vineyard "Le Haut Lieu", the estate expanded in the mid-1950s with the acquisition of two additional vineyards on the Première Côte -- Le Mont (purchased in 1957) and Clos du Bourg (farmed since 1953, purchased in 1963) -- which ensured the domaine’s place in the French wine pantheon.
Dear Riesling Lovers ,
German winemaker Klaus-Peter Keller has an almost uncanny knack for consistently producing breathtakingly good dry rieslings, even when conditions are less than ideal. By way of recent example, the 2014 vintage in Germany was wet and generally challenging, and resulted in good rather than great wines across the board. But not from Keller. His were sublime.
